BATMAN: CITY OF SCARS

It's no secret we love fan films here on DSTG! While fan films have a small or sometimes zero budget, they're labors of love and always get the characters right. Something Hollywood can't seem to pull off. Yes, I'm talking to you, the filmmakers on Jonah Hex.

Bat in the Sun Productions created what is the best Batman fan film of all time, and possibly the best Batman film ever made. And all for a mere $27,000.00.

Once again, the fans get it right while Hollywood never learns.

GENERAL GRIEVOUS COSPLAYER

We've seen lots of Star Wars cosplayers before but this is the first time I've ever seen someone dress as General Grievous. This German cosplayer uses the lining of the cape to hide his arms and legs but it's the creepy way he moves the head that really brings the character to life.

NICOLAS CAGE WANTS CAKE

In what's got to be one of the strangest animation pieces ever, Nicolas Cage wants a piece of cake but can't have it. Still, it's better than watching him in The Wicker Man.

DOGTOOTH

I miss living in a big city. Living in Kentucky is the ideal spot if you love horses and Dodge trucks but not so good if you're into movies, music, art or most anything else. Sure, the pace of life is slower but you miss out on a lot. There's no independent or foreign films in the local theaters, major musicians bypass the state entirely and if you want to see an art exhibition, you'd better plan on driving across the state line.

Take the Greek film, Dogtooth, for example. Here's one of the strangest movies ever made, which means it'll never play in my local theater. Kino International is distributing the film domestically and it's set to open in New York City later this month. From the Kino website:

Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Dogtooth is a darkly funny look at three teenagers confined to their parents’ isolated country estate and kept under strict rule and regimen. Terrorized into submission by their father, the children spend their days learning an invented vocabulary and living in an absurdist, nightmarish experiment — until a trusted outsider, brought in to satisfy the son’s libidinal urges, starts trading VHS tapes for sexual favors. A hyper-stylized mixture of physical violence and verbal comedy, Dogtooth’s ruthless satire of middle-class mores heralds the arrival of an important new voice in world cinema.

Both trailers are very different but both are disturbing, bizarre and definitely nsfw. Meanwhile, I'll keep checking Amazon for the DVD release.

HEARTLESS: THE STORY OF THE TIN MAN

Everyone knows I'm a sucker for tragic love stories. Brandon McCormick gives us just that in his short film, Heartless: The Story of the Tin Man. We all know the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz but we've never seen how he came to be and how he lost his humanity and ultimately, his love.

GREEN LANTERN MOVIE LOGO

It's not much but Warner Bros. has revealed the logo for the upcoming Green Lantern film through their Consumer Products division. There's no trailer yet but I'm hoping the movie will look better than Jonah Hex.

IRON BABY

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Iron Baby does it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Thanks, Luke!

FABLES TELEVISION COMMERCIAL

This television commercial for Fables makes me wonder why we haven't seen more advertisements for comic books and graphic novels.

THE PRINCESS BUNNY

Here's The Princess Bride in 30 seconds re-enacted by bunnies. And just so you know, the Princess doesn't get eaten by the eels. The eel doesn't get her. I'm explaining to you because you look nervous.

AMC RELEASES WALKING DEAD PHOTOS AND VIDEO

AMC just released several photos and a video of their upcoming series, The Walking Dead, based on Robert Kirkman's comic book. Sure, the video is just a promo fluff piece but it's still great to get an inside look at what could possibly be the best new series on television. Well, after Breaking Bad, of course.

CAPTAIN AMERICA CONCEPT ART

Ain't It Cool revealed some concept art for the upcoming movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, which they claim is real and not fan art. I have to admit, I'm impressed. The costume looks great and I really like the helmet, even though it doesn't have the wings. Click the link to see more.

WHY CAN'T FOX NEWS BE LIKE THIS?

Fox News should take note. This is what people really want to see: Sam the Eagle from The Muppet Show singing "American Woman." Now get Sean Hannity and those other idiots off my TV!
