It's that time of year when we start seeing video montages highlighting the best films of the year. These videos are a love/hate thing with me. I love that the videos are so well done, reminding me of some of my favorite cinematic moments of the year, but I also hate them because they can make bad movies look so good. Plus, it reminds me of all the movies I haven't seen and desperately want to catch a screening sometime soon.
Matthew Shapiro's 2010 Cinescape is an example of how wonderful movies are and should be. It's his fifth video, this time using a song by The Killers, "A Dustland Fairytale".
"I am a huge believer in the notion that while some films may be for adults and others for kids, and while some films may be of higher quality than those aimed at the lowest common denominator, escaping into the world of a film is a universal experience that we all crave, no matter who we are or how greatly our tastes differ. The goal of this video is to at least begin to capture the essence of what that lose-yourself-to-film feeling is like...and to show just how many kick-ass movies 2010 gave us (because it's pretty easy to forget)."

Ah, it's so easy to do. DC Comics titles are terrible. Remember Final Crisis? I'm still trying to wipe that fiasco from my mind. And the Warner Bros films make it even easier. Just look at Superman Returns or Jonah Hex. Yes, we all know DC sucks and Conan proves it by pointing out some very lame DC superheroes.
Visitors at a nature park in Turkey have been treated to a very rare sight - conjoined turtle twins.
A two-headed turtle has amazed visitors of a nature reserve in the eastern province of Izmir in Turkey. The month-old turtle was found in the backyard of a house in the eastern province of Manisa and was immediately taken to the nature reserve park.
According to the state-run Anatolian news agency, the turtle is a spur-thighed tortoise, a species which can live up to 75 years old.

From the Orange News:
A woman born with no legs and only one arm is getting used to caring for her new baby. Melek, 24, and boyfriend Mehmet are overjoyed with their son Semih, who is now nine-months-old. The couple first met when they were 14, introduced by family friends after Mehmet moved to Denmark from Turkey, and slowly fell in love.
"I have had a lot of other girlfriends but never felt for anyone like I do for Melek," Mehmet said.
The pair became lovers when they were 18; later moving in together before getting married in Turkey two years ago, though their union isn't recognised in Denmark.
Melek said: "We always wanted children and we were so happy when we found out I was pregnant. I took the test five or six times."
However, both doctors and Melek's family were concerned about how her body would respond to, not to mention cope with, being pregnant. She was determined to give birth naturally but the decision was taken out of her hands when her waters unexpectedly broke.
Semih was born by caesarean section, weighing a healthy 8lb 6oz, the next morning with Melek under a general anaesthetic as doctors were unable to administer an epidural. But since leaving hospital it has been a sharp learning curve for the new mother, and Mehmet, as she is still learning how to handle the baby.
Melek added: "Family and friends have all said that they will be happy to help. We hope to get a bigger apartment that has a lift, a room for the baby and space for our dog Chanel."
AMC's The Walking Dead is a good television show but doesn't feature nearly enough zombies, in my opinion. And to prove it, here's a video featuring every zombie death in chronological order from the series. In a world that's gone to hell and being overrun with zombies, 42 zombie deaths doesn't seem like much.
The new trailer for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides is online. Personally, I'm glad to see Geoffrey Rush in the latest sequel and even happier for the absence of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly.
Earlier we reported on the RD-D2 bathing suit available through Black Milk, now they've unveiled a new C-3PO bathing suit. For only $85.00 you can turn the heads of men and become an instant nerdy sex symbol.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World was the best film of 2010; a unique, funny movie that was unlike anything else I'd ever seen and made Edgar Wright one of my favorite directors. I'm a big fan of Shaun of the Dead as well, as is Joel Walden who create this tribute to the director.

Twenty-two years ago, December 6, 1988, rock and roll legend Roy Orbison passed away from a heart attack. Orbison was then at the height of his career with two albums in Billboard’s Top 5, Mystery Girl and The Travelling Wilburys and was in the midst of a world-wide tour. He left behind one of history’s greatest musical legacies.
Since his untimely passing, not a day goes by without a glimpse of Roy Orbison’s lasting influence, from his iconic sunglasses to his romantic, unforgettable voice singing some of rock and roll’s most famous songs. The lyrics he wrote echo what millions have felt. What would the world be like without “Oh, Pretty Woman,” “Only the Lonely,” “Crying,” “In Dreams,” “Blue Bayou,” and “You Got It”?
Please join us at RoyOrbison.com or at Facebook.com/RoyOrbison to celebrate the life of this great singer, songwriter, musician, husband, father, and friend. Please leave your favorite Roy Orbison memory, story, or photo in our forum. The 10 best fan submissions will be chosen and displayed on the front page of RoyOrbison.com. Winning fans will also receive exclusive items from the Roy Orbison Store.
Sony Legacy and Roy Orbison Enterprises are also gearing up a special campaign to celebrate Roy Orbison’s 75th Birthday early next spring. Please keep an eye out for news and updates.
We miss you Roy!

I hate reading news like this. It's like eating a spoonful of Drano. Sure, it'll clean you out, but it'll leave you hollow inside.
Leslie Nielsen, who went from drama to inspired bumbling as a hapless doctor in "Airplane!" and the accident-prone detective Frank Drebin in "The Naked Gun" comedies, has died. He was 84.
His agent John S. Kelly says Nielsen died Sunday at a hospital near his home in Ft. Lauderdale where he was being treated for pneumonia.
The Canadian-born Nielsen came to Hollywood in the mid-1950s after performing in 150 live television dramas in New York. With a craggily handsome face, blond hair and 6-foot-2 height, he seemed ideal for a movie leading man.
He quickly became known as a serious actor, although behind the camera he was a prankster. That was an aspect of his personality never exploited, however, until "Airplane!" was released in 1980 and became a huge hit.
And so he passed away from pneumonia. I know that's not how he wanted to go out. A parachute not opening... that's a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine... having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that's the way he should have gone!

Nicolas Cage is an oddity. He's terrible in so many movies but then he'll do something amazing like The Weather Man so it's hard to hate him completely. But after watching this above clip, which of course includes scenes from The Wicker Man, it's might not be that hard after all.

The official trailer for Green Lantern showed up online today. I have mixed feeling about the trailer, especially the overuse of CG, but that's me. At least it looks better than the Jonah Hex movie. What do you think?
Artist Steve Thomas released his "Vintage Star Wars Posters" after waiting two years for them to be printed and is still waiting on a website to complete the job. He hopes the prints will be available soon. Meanwhile, you can see all eight pieces here.

I started reading the Harry Potter books a few weeks ago in an attempt to read all the books before the first part of the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1, is released on November 19th. I'm only on the fourth book, so my chances are pretty slim I'll meet my goal. But even as I read the first book, I immediately wondered why Hogwarts would even have a Slytherin House in the school since most of those students go into the Dark Arts. In the above scene, Harry has the same question and decides a much easier path for himself.
About a month ago, we featured the Artoo bathing suit. Now we have a photo of someone actually wearing it, complete with a Darth Vader skin on her phone. The Force is strong with this one!

Boldly going where no deal has gone before, Amazon has Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture Collection box set on Blu-Ray ($54.99) and regular DVD ($34.99), featuring six movies and a slew of Special Features. But don't delay because this offer is good for today only!

Lots of people are looking forward to the Green Lantern movie. I wish I could say I was one of them, but after Superman Returns and the Jonah Hex movie, I don't hold much hope for another DC Comics property film. The trailer for Green Lantern will be attached to the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 but if you want a sneak peek, Entertainment Tonight has your first look at the film.
Neatorama has lots of great stuff for sale, including this Darth Vader Cookie Jar! Each limited-edition jar is hand-painted and comes with a certificate of authenticity. See if you can use The Force not to eat all the delicious treats.

Groundhog Day is one of our favorite movies, so we were very excited to see this remix. HomeStarRunnerTron used small bits of the movie to create this silly and fun remix entitled "Bing!".
"This has been one maddening labor of love for me. This is a remix of a movie that has been near and dear to be since around Third Grade-- the 1993 romantic-comedy-fantasy classic, Groundhog Day! It's comprised entirely-- and I mean entirely out of small bits and pieces of the movie, either re-pitched, slowed down, sped up, and sometimes with a slight touch of auto-tune for good measure (or a lot of auto-tune to re-configure chords in some score samples). The piece is completely inspired from my love of all things Pogo (aka the genius remixer from Perth), as well as just my affinity for music itself. I readjusted Jack Conte's VideoSong medium to show every single one of the parts sampled. I tried to make this song a sweeping medley of emotions, quite in the same way the movie itself is! I do so hope you enjoy its whimsicality. *grins* It's quite a smorgasbord of sight and sound. Am I right or am I right or am I right or am I right?"

She-Hulk is our favorite superhero. She's smart, funny, sexy, nearly seven feet tall and green. And Sideshow Collectibles has an amazing statue coming out in early 2011 showcasing her in all her emerald glory. Weighing twelve pounds with each piece individually painted and using real fabric elements, this would be an incredible addition to any She-Hulk fan's collection. At $247.99 our odds of getting one is pretty slim but that doesn't stop us from putting this She-Hulk statue at the top of our wish list!

We've featured BelleChere's cosplay on DSTG! before. Over the years, she brought some of our favorite characters to life and here she takes on Vampirella, paying tribute to the late artist, Frank Frazetta.
"This year saw the passing of a comic great: Frank Frazetta. I've been a long time fan of his work and had always wanted to try and mimic his artistic syle. For a couple years people have been urging me to try Vampirella, so I picked up a run of the Warren comics reprints and as many of the newer Harris Publishing run as I could. I did enjoy the character, and I wanted to pay tribute to Frazetta."
Be sure to check out the rest of her gallery.

Christmas is around the corner and already there's so much good stuff to put on your wish list, like Star Wars: Vision, featuring art inspired by the films.

Wyeth and Norman Rockwell for his own visual inspiration, he has now invited more than 100 well-known and promising artists to draw upon the entire Star Wars galaxy for inspiration. Star Wars: Visions collects these magnificent artworks for the first time. Featuring pieces by renowned artists such as Amano, Allan R. Banks, Harley Brown, Gary Carter, James Christensen, Michael Coleman, Kinuko Craft, Jim Dietz, Phillipe Druillet, Donato Giancola, Ann Hanson, H. R. Giger, Daniel Greene, Ron Kleeman, Arantzazu Martinez, Syd Mead, Moebius, Paul Oxborough, Alex Ross, Anthony J. Actroid-F is a robot with realistic facial expressions and body movements. It's easy to see why Actroid-F billed as the "first true android". Since then, they've brought us Sideways, Sexy Beast, Sunshine, Thank You for Smoking, just to name a few of my personal favorites. Here are two videos celebrating the anniversary and with movies like these, I'm hoping Fox Searchlight is around forever.
