In 1999, John Prine released In Spite of Ourselves, an album of duets with folk and alt-country singers. The title track, featuring Iris Dement, was written for the Billy Bob Thornton film, Daddy and Them, and was played during the credits. In the film, Prine plays Thornton's zen hillbilly brother with Andy Griffith as their father.
