RETURN OF THE SPLASH PAGE

Comic books today are more realistic, cynical and violent than ever before. While the industry changes, adapts and tries competes with the internet, video games, television and movies, some of the fun has been lost. Splash pages have been replaced by story recaps, rehashing previous issues. Splash pages, for those of you who don't know, is the opening page of a comic book and is one full-frame illustration. I was happily surprised to see a splash page in the current issue (#32) of Wonder Woman. I turned the page, and again to my delight, page 3 was another full page with Wonder Woman ready to kick some ass. Now that's the way to start an issue!
