Majel Barrett Roddenberry was sent to the final frontier Sunday, January 04, 2009 by family, friends and Trekkies. Roddenberry passed away December 18, 2008 at age 76 and was laid to rest at Los Angeles' Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery.The service, opened to fans (yes, a handful did show up in Trek gear), drew close to 300 mourners, including costars Walter Koenig (Chekov), Nichelle Nichols (Uhuru) and George Takei (Sulu).Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, played Nurse Christina Chapel on the original series and supplied the voice of the USS Enterprise's computer through the various spin-offs, including the upcoming J.J. Abrams' film.
