Jimmie Dale Gilmore grew up in Texas listening to Hank Williams, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly. He formed the band The Flatlanders in 1972 with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. Although their first album was barely noticed when it was first released, it has been reissued by Rounder Records and has been hailed as a milestone of alternative country.
Gilmore studied metaphysics during his college years and moved to Austin, Texas in the 1980's. His first solo album, Fair and Square, was released in 1988.
Fans have fallen in love with Gilmore's beautiful tenor voice and heartbreaking songs, such as "Just a Wave, Not the Water". Here's hoping you'll fall in love with them too.
