BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SPIN-OFF

It's hard for me to get excited about Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel series. After Battlestar Galactica went into the toilet two seasons ago, I stopped watching. But of course, there's still that glimmer of hope that Caprica will be as good as Battlestar Galactica was in the beginning.

Sci Fi Channel announced it was picking up Caprica, the spin-off series set 50 years before the Cylon attack on the 12 colonies, an earth-like society. The series will focus on two rival families, the Adamas and the Graystones. Esai Morales stars as Bill Adama's father, Joseph, with Eric Stoltz as Daniel Graystone. Daniel Graystone's artificial intelligence and robotics will eventually lead to the breakthrough of Cylon technology. Check out the trailer below.

The 2 hour film pilot has already been produced with Sci Fi Channel ordering an additional 20 hours. Production of the new series is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2009.

But Sci Fi Channel pulls another one of its tricks, making the fans wait again. The final season of Battlestar Galactica was split up over 2 years(!), with the second half of the final season yet to air. Caprica won't air until 2010, even though pilot film is done. The Sci Fi Channel has no quality original programming other than Battlestar Galactica and is stretching it out as long as possible, hoping to keep their new fan base. Personally, I think their scheduling backfired. The production quality severely suffered and fans forgot the series.

Keep your fingers crossed Caprica lives up to the hype. So say we all!
