Kelly Macdonald was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved quite a bit during her childhood. While working as a barmaid, she auditioned for
Trainspotting and won the part of Diane. She soon took on other film roles in
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,
Finding Neverland, Robert Altman's
Gosford Park,
Nanny McPhee and
No Country for Old Men. She appeared in the BBC dramas,
State of Play and
The Girl in the Cafe. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in The Girl in the Cafe and later won an Emmy. Her latest role was opposite Sam Rockwell in the 2008 film,
Choke.
