Toni Price was born and adopted in Pennsylvania and later moved with her parents to Nashville, Tennessee, where she entered talent contests. Feeling confined by the rigid music industry in Nashville, she accepted an invitation to perform at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas in 1989. Music fans responded so well to her at the festival, she soon moved to Austin and recorded her debut album, Swim Away. She's recorded six albums since then, being praised by fans and critics alike, prompting comparisons to Patsy Cline and Bonnie Raitt, while winning numerous awards.

Price composes music on her own terms and isn't interested in fame. "My favorite thing someone says to one of my friends is, 'Why isn't she famous?' I love when they say that because that means they think maybe I'm good enough to be famous. To me, famous looks like a lot of work."
