JUST LISTEN: CARLENE CARTER (PT. 1)

Carlene Carter (born Rebecca Carlene Smith) is the daughter of June Carter and her first husband, Carl Smith. She began her singing career with The Carter Sisters and released her first solo record in 1977. During one of her first concerts, she introduced a song by saying, "If this doesn't put the cunt back in country, I don't know what will."

She gained popularity with her 1990 album, I Fell in Love, with the title song becoming a hit on the country charts. The album earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Carter's album, Stronger, was released in March of this year. The title track was written in memory of her youngest sister, who passed away several years ago.

She was also married to British rock and roller Nick Lowe for a time and she's in his video for 'Cruel to be Kind.'
